CBD is a relatively new product gaining popularity in the health market and can be found in products such as gummies, oils, coffee, and chocolate to name a few. But what are the benefits of CBD? I was offered some chocolate by the company Cheerful Buddha recently and I was excited to try it out for myself.
Cannabidiol or better known as CBD is one of many chemical compounds found in cannabinoids which as you’ve guessed, are found in the cannabis plant. Not to be confused with Hemp, which is actually a plant similar to cannabis, it also contains CBD but in higher concentrations actually called THC. THC though is the compound that causes the high which people associate with cannabis use.
So, we’ve established where CBD comes from but why invest in this new wonder supplement everyone is raving about?
CBD is full of antioxidants and when it comes together with another high-antioxidant product, dark chocolate, the effects are two-fold. Antioxidants are mostly found in bright coloured foods such as red wine because the rich dark grapes it’s made from contains huge amounts but this doesn’t mean you should be consuming bottles of red wine! a small glass every other day is good. Other foods that are rich in antioxidants are dark berries like blueberries and goji berries, also dark veg like kale, spinach, and red cabbage, also artichokes, beans and beets like the vibrant beetroot. A diet containing antioxidants help prevent cell from damage. Cell damage can happen for various reasons such as smoking, drinking to excess and pollutants in the environment. These pollutants alter DNA in cells which is how chronic diseases come about like cancer, type 11 diabetes and heart disease. Fortunately eating a diet rich in antioxidants can help prevent this damage as well as taking regular exercise such as walking.
How else can CBD help? It can keep hormones such as cortisol at bay, cortisol contributes to high stress levels. When we keep stress at low levels, we sleep better hence, we perform better during the day because our cognitive abilities aren’t compromised.
Another big yes in my book is that CBD helps with the menopause. Debilitating menopausal symptoms is not a laughing matter with hot flushes, joint pain, low mood and libido, increased stress and sleeplessness so you’ll be happy to know that CBD helps control all these symptoms which is why CBD products like Cheerful Buddha chocolate and coffee is so welcome. CBD also helps regulate mood and and may reduce the symptoms of some mental health disorders including depression which seems to be rife especially since the recent Covid-19 pandemic. It may provide benefits to some neurological disorders such as epilepsy and may reduce certain cancer symptoms although more research needs to be done on this.
Cheerful Buddha was launched in 2019 by entrepreneur James Wright, the aim was to introduce enjoyable ways to incorporate CBD into our daily wellness routines. Knowing that CBD oil can be unpleasant to taste and digest, they came up with incorporating it into something almost all of us enjoy – chocolate and coffee!!
More importantly, it’s also the first CBD coffee and CBD chocolate brand to be stocked in major retailers and is the only BRC (BRC is the global standard for food safety) Certified Manufacturer of CBD chocolate on the UK Food Standards Agency CBD Novel Food Public List. This new public list is so important to the CBD industry as it represents the products which can legally remain on sale. To make the list, products must undergo rigorous safety testing the results of which are scrutinised by the FSA.
Cheerful Buddha is no doubt proud to be on that prestigious list of products, it’s certainly quite an achievement and with that in mind, I am very happy knowing that I am taking my daily CBD in the form of coffee and delicious chocolate endorsed by these well respected institutions.
What better way to take your daily quota of CBD in the form of delicious chocolate and coffee. It’s easily absorbed and it doesn’t have that nasty CBD taste. There are two flavours to choose from, mint and orange plus plain and all three have 70% cacao solids,70% means you are getting the most concentrated form of pure cacao. Both flavours are really yummy but the plain is also lovely as it has a distinct earthy nutty taste to savour.
My nineteen year old daughter had two squares of her favourite mint flavour and she said it helped induce sleep and woke up feeling really refreshed despite the uncomfortable heat we are experiencing at the moment. I can definitely feel the benefits; I’m much more relaxed, focussed and calm. Cheerful Buddha CBD chocolate really hits the spot if you’re craving something sweet with little calories, 75 per square to be precise. The chocolate itself is a single estate Indonesian cacao from the remote Seram Island in Maluku province, it’s 100% natural and sustainably sourced product rich and intense.
Cheerful Buddha gets my vote, I am happy to be taking my daily CBD in the form of their luxury products which can be found in almost all 800 Holland & Barrett stores as well as independent businesses such as café’s, grocers, other health food shops and even the luxury Cotswolds farm shop, Daylesford Organic.
CBD chocolate retails at £5.99 and the ground coffee at £9.99
This product was gifted but I was under no obligation to write a post. All thoughts are my own.
